my grad school application is still awaiting a final letter of recommendation from a professor. once that's in (supposedly soon?), they'll start evaluating me. eep!
work has become a strange place. everyone is dissatisfied and jokingly talks about quitting while seriously looking for other jobs. it's not a very productive environment, but it does allow for a lot of this song and this commercial. it's funny how widespread discontent has made many of us much better friends than we might have been otherwise.
i was going to get coffee this morning and two men, potentially homeless, asked me for change. i told them i didn't have any and then they asked if i would buy them coffee, so i did. as i walked away, i wondered if i had just been duped. i was hoping one of them would say, "i just want my kids back" or something. neither did. regardless, they got large delicious coffees this morning, and one of them told me i was "rockin my way to heaven." so i feel pretty good about the whole thing.
i saw a play last weekend and picnicked for beth's birthday and saw alec play with a synth in front of some great artwork and planted flowers in the front yard and moved some of my furniture and made a new friend and got sick before it was cool/terrifying. i'm trying to convince my brother to move to dc, but it's not going well even though dc is awesome. college friends are graduating soon and some of them are moving here, which will be amazing. we haven't won trivia in a while, but we've had a respectable showing and had a feast last week. devan, gabrielle, and i also all feasted on monday at sticky rice which was delicious and wonderful.
i'm leaving for guatemala five weeks from tomorrow. i need to get my affairs in order.
