in the last few months i have:

• finished my first year of grad school
• started my new job
• seen my brother get married
• visited seattle
• found a new place to live, which i'm moving into in a couple weeks

i've done other things, too, but covers most of the big ones (i think).

i've read five or six books by w. somerset maugham this year, and right now i'm finishing up the painted veil. i didn't think i would care too much for it (compared with some of the others), but i'm surprised by how good it is. it's so sad, but there's something unforgivingly realistic in maugham's portrayal of his characters and their situations. i'm interested to see how it ends.

i'll post pictures of seattle soon hopefully and then of my new home when i'm all moved in.
