beard of bees

i've taken my work laptop home both of the last two nights, and i hate it. it's heavy and bulky which makes squeezing past people in the metro hard and which makes me feel like i'm going to end up with perpetually off-balanced shoulders. i'm also just opposed to taking my work home (when my work isn't something i'm looking forward to). home and disliked work should be separate, and seeing that laptop on my fold-out couch is a perpetual reminder that i should be worrying about my upcoming work. sigh. my laptop, my albatross.

i was complaining about not having anything to do a week ago, and now i'm complaining about having so much stuff to do that i have to take it home. my mom was right: i'm never satisfied.

i've been going out after work which is fun, but i always end up at home late and tired. it's worth it, though, i think. i was down on u street last night, and there's so much to do there! some people from work and i went to some bar to see my boss-lady dj some scandinavian tunes. unfortunately, for whatever reason, only her dj sidekick was there. it was still fun, and i liked that place. there was a high quotient of cowboy shirts and beards. laura bought me a miller lite because she's a classy lady and so am i. they played annie's "chewing gum" which was in my head all morning.

i'm making a lot of plans for the upcoming days including but not limited to hanging out with my cousins, going out and getting crazy with dana (probably followed by laying on the floor, listening to radiohead, and complaining), reuniting with suzanne who's coming back from russia (!!!!), having dinner with audrey, and on and on. with work and my commute taking up ten to eleven hours of the day, these little activities leave me bereft of time to sit and read or watch tv in my pajamas. i think that's a good thing, though. it keeps me from brooding or reminiscing or doing any other of that negative activity. instead, i'm out drinking two dollar coronas and seeing bands and enjoying delicious mexican food and relishing in time with friends. life is full.
