i love to see a rainbow from a garden hose

i finally got my bike fixed yesterday. apparently everything about my tire other than the metal wheel part needed replacing. i'm not sure what i did to my bike, but it's all fixed now. that capitol hill bikes is a place of miracles. thanks to their fast and friendly service, i can ride around any time i want! i hope i don't get hit by a car!

i was watching some silver jews music videos this morning (as in just now), and the video for "sleeping is the only love" is kind of creepy? by which i really just mean this:

i'm thinking about making some fake paper eyes to wear over my real eyes at work later, just to see how it goes over. i feel like the rest of the staff will find it more creepy, less funny. but, also!, i think i'm going to see the silver jews tomorrow. i'm not sure if anyone is going with me, but i've got to go. i've gotta do it. no way around it.

in other news, i really love my neighborhood! g, laura, and i walked around for hours on sunday. we meandered to the capitol and walked through eastern market and wandered around union station. it's so great! we also went to meg's birthday on saturday night. it mobilized to the rock and roll hotel, another perk of the neighborhood. just great, just great.

other things in dc that are great and are something to look foward to:
1. the library of congress is holding the national book festival on september 27th on the national mall. tiki barber's going to be there. i want to talk to him about how to break into children's literature and about how it feels to be one of roanoke's most famous native sons. i'm pretty sure i know his answers already, though: football and great!, respectively.
2. captiol hill neighborhood has an event every year called a literary feast. in one night, there are 30-ish dinner parties held around the neighborhood, each themed around a particular book. this year some of the books include: harry potter and the sorcerer's stone, the dubliners, to the lighthouse, and wuthering heights. it says that it's a dinner, not a discussion, so it's not really a book talk or anything, but more a chance to get to know other people in the neighborhood. how awesome! it's pretty expensive, but i feel sort of like it'd be worth it.
3. i'm seeing built to spill in two weeks!

i'm presently regretting having started off today with a big gulp. but today is bethesda's weekly farmers market!

while everything else is going crazy, life here in dc is alternately exciting/busy and quiet/relaxing. neat!
